IECC International Energy Conservation Code

The International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) is derived from experiences gained over many decades of code development.

• DOE working toward 2 goals
  • Improvement of 30% in 2012 IECC (relative to 2006)
  • Improvement of 50% in 2015 IECC (relative to 2006)

• Mandatory new entire house blower door pressure test along with required stringent leakage rates
  • Zones 1 to 2: ≤ 5 ACH @50 Pascals
  • Zones 3 to 8: ≤ 3 ACH @50 Pascals
• Domestic hot water plumbing must be Short & skinny (lengths that are exempted are diameter dependent) or insulated to R3
• Eliminated the option "leakage to outdoors" 
  • Down from 12 to 4 CFM per 100sf CFA (post construction)
  • Down from 6 to 4 CFM per 100sf CFA (at rough-in)
• Various R-value/U-factor/SHGC improvements
